Costume Prop
We partnered with Gumption Squad to bring their storytelling event to life by 3D printing a detailed, lightweight Griffin costume prop, ensuring durability, visibility, and a perfect fit.
Gumption Squad, a project by The Feminist Directory, empowers children through engaging storytelling events that highlight historical female role models. For their latest production, they needed a distinctive and durable costume prop—one that would stand out from a distance and integrate seamlessly into their performance.
Gumption Squad initially approached us with concept sketches of a creature to perch on the shoulder of a costume. They were undecided on the final design, so our team conducted research into mythical creatures that aligned with their storytelling themes, ultimately refining the idea into a modern Griffin.
We transformed these sketches into a high-detail CAD model optimised for 3D printing. The Griffin was printed using SLA, ensuring fine detail and a lightweight structure suitable for stage performance.
Once printed, the Griffin was hand-finished to enhance texture and visual depth. It was then tested for durability and securely attached to the fabric costume, ensuring a comfortable and reliable fit for the performer.
The final result was a visually striking, lightweight Griffin prop that not only met Gumption Squad’s needs but also enhanced the storytelling experience for their audience.
