The Challenge
CNI Guard, a provider of monitoring solutions for critical infrastructure, needed a reliable manhole monitoring system to address safety risks and operational disruption caused by degraded power lines. In cities like New York, incidents such as electrified manholes and exploding covers can cause serious injury or death, as well as significant network downtime. The challenge was to develop a system that could deliver accurate, real-time alerts in harsh urban environments while remaining robust and dependable.
The Solution
We partnered with CNI Guard to design and develop a manhole monitoring system capable of early detection of stray voltage, floods, and gas leaks. The system continually collects data and transmits it to a central hub, allowing maintenance teams to respond rapidly to incidents. Through iterative prototyping, rigorous testing, and risk mitigation strategies, we ensured the device could withstand extreme conditions and operate reliably in the field. Our process included multiple design and test cycles to refine durability, sensor accuracy, and overall performance under real-world conditions.
