The Challenge

B&Q tasked us with developing a range of entry-level power tools for their Performance Power brand. The brief required a distinctive new aesthetic that would create a strong brand identity across a comprehensive range of 32 tools. At the same time, costs needed to be reduced compared to the existing range, and manufacturing and assembly processes had to be simplified to improve efficiency and maintain high quality.

The Solution

We developed a series of design styling cues and features that gave the Performance Power range a cohesive and recognisable visual identity, while ensuring each tool could be manufactured efficiently. By analysing existing manufacturing challenges, we reduced component counts and removed unnecessary, expensive finishes. Our team produced a comprehensive Style Guide for all vendors, ensuring that design intent and brand consistency were maintained throughout production.

The Results

  • Creation of a visually cohesive design language across a broad range of 32 power tools.

  • Reduced manufacturing costs through simplified components and removal of unnecessary finishes.

  • Streamlined assembly processes, improving production efficiency.

“AME really listen and understand what I need, you’re flexible and adaptable, you can deal with ambiguity and change, you always answer the brief and can meet the most ridiculous timescales!”
